 Dutton was born in St. Paul’s Parish, Independent City, Baltimore Co, Maryland. He was 1 of 6 children born to Richard Dutton & his wife, Sarah (Fuller). Richard moved his wife & children to Pittsylvania Co, VA, in the 1740’s. Dutton & his brother, Tedence Lane, were both well-known Baptist preachers. Dutton married Elizabeth (Oakes) in 1758.
